02

Financial Advisors & Wealth Management

The term “financial advisor” can describe professionals providing different types of financial services.

At Gold Coast Capital Management, the advisory relationship is focused primarily on investment planning, portfolio management, retirement investment strategy and related wealth-management decisions.

The process begins by understanding your goals, existing investments, time horizon, risk tolerance and broader financial circumstances.

The terms often overlap. A financial advisor may provide a range of financial guidance, while “wealth management” generally describes a broader relationship involving the management of significant financial assets and related investment decisions.

At Gold Coast Capital Management, wealth management centers on connecting investment planning and ongoing portfolio management with the client's broader objectives.

Investment planning establishes the strategy. It considers questions such as what your money needs to accomplish, how much risk is appropriate, your time horizon and how existing assets should fit together.

Portfolio management implements and maintains that strategy through portfolio construction, monitoring, diversification, risk management and adjustments when appropriate.

03

Portfolio Reviews & Second Opinions

A financial second opinion is an independent review of your current investment strategy by another financial professional.

At Gold Coast Capital Management, the review may consider areas such as:

  • Portfolio allocation
  • Diversification
  • Investment risk
  • Advisory fees
  • Investment expenses
  • Tax considerations
  • Alignment with your financial objectives

The goal is to give you another perspective before deciding whether anything needs to change.

Yes. You do not need to leave your existing financial advisor simply to have another professional review your investment portfolio.

A second opinion can either identify issues worth discussing or provide additional confidence in the strategy you already have.

No. Gold Coast Capital Management offers a complimentary portfolio review without requiring you to transfer your investments or become a client.

The purpose of the review is to help you better understand your current investment position and determine whether further action may be appropriate.

The exact review depends on your circumstances, but areas considered may include:

  • Asset allocation
  • Diversification
  • Concentrated positions
  • Investment risk
  • Advisory fees
  • Investment costs
  • Account structure
  • Relevant tax considerations
  • Whether the portfolio remains aligned with your goals
04

Financial Advisor Fees

Gold Coast Capital Management charges a 0.50% annual advisory fee for ongoing advisory services.

For example, a 0.50% fee on $1 million of assets equals $5,000 annually, based on that hypothetical asset value.

Clients should review the applicable advisory agreement and regulatory disclosures for complete information regarding fees and services.

A 1% annual advisory fee equals approximately $10,000 per year for every $1 million of assets to which the fee applies.

Whether a fee represents good value depends on the services, expertise, level of access and advisory relationship provided.

Rather than focusing only on the percentage, investors should understand the annual dollar cost and what they receive in return.

Not necessarily. Investments themselves may have expenses in addition to an advisor's management fee.

Depending on the portfolio, these could include mutual fund or ETF expense ratios and other investment-related costs.

Investors should understand the overall cost of both the advisory relationship and the underlying investment strategy.

05

Your Investments & Charles Schwab

Client investment assets are independently custodied at Charles Schwab.

Your accounts remain in your name, and you maintain direct access to account information and statements through Schwab.

Gold Coast Capital Management manages the investment portfolio but does not take custody of client assets.

Gold Coast Capital Management's current advisory model allows the firm to manage client portfolios while the assets remain independently held at Charles Schwab.

Gold Coast Capital Management does not take custody of client assets and cannot simply withdraw client funds for its own use.

Clients retain direct access to their Schwab accounts.

No. Investment strategies are developed around each client's objectives and circumstances.

Factors such as time horizon, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, existing assets and financial goals can result in different portfolio strategies for different investors.

Tax-aware investing means considering relevant tax consequences when making investment decisions.

Depending on the circumstances, that may include factors such as:

  • Asset location
  • Tax-loss harvesting
  • Capital gains
  • Portfolio turnover
  • Taxable versus tax-advantaged accounts

Taxes are considered alongside investment objectives, diversification and risk rather than being allowed to dictate every investment decision.
